Moving furniture is costly, right? We all like to save a dollar where we can, so why not do it ourselves? Actually, moving furniture isn’t as easy as professionals make it look. It also comes with many problems for the inexperienced mover. We’ve compiled a list of 8 common problems and given you one great way to solve the lot.
1. Accidents
The number one problem for the inexperienced mover is accidents. Unless you have good technique and proper safety gear, you could injure your feet or toes, get sprains, strains, bumps, bruises or an injured back. The number one rule for lifting is don’t pick up anything you can’t easily handle. If it’s too heavy, hire a pro.
2. Damages
If you have an accident, you’ll also get damages. The only things that like to be kicked, dropped or propelled through the air are footballs. If you drop a box, the cost of your move might make your eyes water more than the feeling of it landing on your toe. The easy and cost effective fix is to hire a professional to do the packing and handling.
3. Packing materials
Working out how many and what kind of packing materials you’ll need can be a right old headache in itself. You will need a lot more than you think and most people never get enough. Poor packing and taking shortcuts with packing will result in damages. It’s just how gravity and physics work we’re sorry to say. 4. Specialised handling
Remember the delivery man who brought your big TV to the house and installed it for you? Or the other bloke who delivered the washing machine? Do you remember how they did it? 5. Disassembly and reassembly
To make large items easier to move, they’re often designed to come apart. Lots of small pieces are much easier to carry than one big one. 6. Insurance
Another way we like to save a few dollars is to skip on moving insurance. With all the pitfalls associated with moving and the risk of damages, this is one expense that should never be spared. Not having insurance could cost you dearly. Talk to us about insurance before you move anything!
7. Loading the truck
Trucks need to be loaded with the same skill and care as you pack each individual box. Furniture should never bump against the sides, heavy items go on the floor and fragile items get loaded on top, to name a few of the requirements for the correct loading of a truck. 8. Traffic, distance and moving interstate
