Moving to Sydney: where do you start?

If you’ve ever considered moving to Sydney, we’d understand if you were having trouble knowing where to start. Sydney is one of Australia’s largest cities with approximately 570 suburbs spreading from the coast to the Blue Mountains. Everyone has different living requirements, so we asked our Sydney removalists team to highlight the variety of lifestyle options you’ll find in the suburbs of this wonderful city.

Padstow: safe, convenient and affordable

Padstow is a family-friendly suburb approximately 30 minutes from the CBD by train. You can still buy a house with a few rooms and bit of space for under the $1 million mark which makes it one of the more affordable suburbs in Sydney. Padstow is safe, has good schools and a decent shopping strip. While it’s not considered one of Sydney’s most exciting suburbs, it’s a very stable, peaceful place to live and raise a family.

Surry Hills: one of the coolest, happening ‘hoods in the city

Surry Hills could lay claim to the title of Sydney’s dining capital, but it wasn’t always a hip, happening place to be. Surry Hills was a working-class neighbourhood up to the 1980s when it began the transition to what it is today. Now it boasts chic cafes, cuisine from every corner of the globe and the ice cream institution know as Messina. Those working-class roots aren’t entirely lost though, which is why Surry Hills has a long list of excellent pubs.

Milsons Point: liveability, lifestyle and incredible views

Milsons Point is located on the lower north shore of Sydney’s harbour. If harbour views are on your shopping list, then Milsons Point delivers some of the most spectacular with the Harbour Bridge, Opera House and skyline to boot. It has a vibrant cafe and dining scene and excellent transport services for getting around. It’s one of Sydney’s smaller suburbs, but the reason it’s so liveable is everything is accessible on foot.

Como: peaceful and picturesque

It’s hard to imagine a tranquil, peaceful and picturesque suburb in a big, busting city like Sydney, but Como pulls it off. It has pretty streets, water views and excellent public parks. If you’re after peace and quiet, lots of green and little traffic, Como ticks all the boxes. All this suburban tranquillity doesn’t come cheap though, with the average house price around $1.2 million.

Artarmon: one of Sydney’s most underrated suburbs

On Sydney’s north shore is the highly underrated suburb of Artarmon, which has one of the most balanced choices of houses, apartments and amenities. It also has a thriving Japanese community, so if you love sushi, noodles and ramen, you’re going to be in heaven. It’s a suburb that has everything regardless of your stage of life. There are good apartments and houses, a hospital, shops, superstores and a good choice of dining destinations. It’s also just 15 minutes by train to the city.

We hope you enjoyed this small taste of the variety within the suburbs of Sydney. If you’re planning on making a move, get in touch with our Sydney removalists team.
