2021 is now with us and unfortunately, Covid still is too. Even with the positive outlook of the vaccine being distributed across the world, we still need to remain vigilant. If you’re moving house, there are enough hazards for the unwary and we want you moving safely, so here’s an easy four step guide to ensure Covid isn’t an additional worry.
Getting a quote
Many moving companies are now doing virtual quotes as standard now, as they’re easy to do and don’t require a representative to come to your home. If you’re getting a virtual quote, you’ll need a smart device with video calling so you can walk a representative through your home. Also have a tape measure on hand if you need to provide any measurements for large pieces of furniture or appliances. We can work out everything we need at the office.
Make sure you’re informed
Each state in Australia is handling Covid in a different way. Make sure you’re aware of any requirements which may impact on any of the services you’ll need after your move, such as getting your shopping or getting services to your new home.
Remember the golden trio
Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Maintain your distance.
While few of us wear masks when at home, you’ll increase safety for everyone if you and family wear a mask when the movers arrive to pack your possessions and load them onto the truck.
Wash your hands often, even if you think they’re clean. Use soap and hot water to avoid using sanitiser all the time, as that can dry out your skin. If soap isn’t available, use sanitiser and moisturise later on if required.
While there’s a sense of urgency about any move, being patient will win the day. Let the movers do their job and resist the urge to help out. You’re best giving them space and keeping your distance.
Clean your new home before you unpack
It’s a good idea to get your new home cleaned before you move in at any time, but with Covid still in the community, it’s more important than ever. Hire commercial cleaners if you don’t have time or don’t want to clean the house yourself. If you are doing the cleaning, go ahead of the moving truck. Use disinfectant, bleach and good quality cleaning products to sterilise every surface and remember to wear gloves.
